New High Rise Hotels Proposed in Anaheim

By: Chad Kim

Recent publish from the City of Anaheim's development activity map shows two new proposed high rise hotels.

Westgate Timeshare Gardenwalk:

Located in the Anaheim Resort district, and at the GardenWalk mall, is an existing parking structure. Prior, developer Westgate Resort proposed a development which consisted of constructing a timeshare on top of the five level parking structure. Recent filing shows a rebirth of the plan to construct a seven story timeshare on top of the existing parking structure. The parking structure is currently used as parking for visitors of the GardenWalk mall. Also in the proposal includes restaurant, lobby, sales area, and deck area.

OC Register previously reported Westgate Resort planned to break ground on the development back in 2009, but due to the adverse economic condition and unavailable financing, the developer attempted to sell the property in 2010. In addition, the GardenWalk mall also had financial difficulty.

In 2012, Arcturus Group, Avenue Capital Group, and Elliott Management purchased the mall. More recently, the mall landed a huge tenant, the House of Blues. The entertainment and restaurant venue relocated from Downtown Disney to GardenWalk which replaced the UltraLuxe Cinemas taking up 44,000 square feet and opened in February 2017. The current ownership, indicated a shift in moving away from a more retail focused mall to one that provides an entertainment and food experience based mall (OC Register).

Anaheim Boulevard Hotel:

Located just outside of the eastern boundary of the Anaheim Resort district at 1601 S Anaheim Boulevard is a proposed 14 story hotel consisting of 330 hotel rooms. The proposed hotel also includes the construction of a five level parking garage providing 360 vehicle parking spaces.
